All healthcare providers and entities that diagnose or provide the first course of treatment to a patient must report cancer case information to the state cancer registry in accordance with state and federal law.

If your practice is located in another county, or you are a provider wanting to participate in Meaningful Use, please see the below section on how to report. If you are participating in Meaningful Use or your practice is not inside the SEER catchment area, see below for reporting information. Providers who are participating in Meaningful Use must register their intent to participate through our Meaningful Use page and submit their data through the state Health Information Exchange HIE.

Case information at the State Registry remains in a restricted and highly confidential environment. Employees at the State Cancer Registry have access only as needed to perform required duties. The State Cancer Registry contracts with the Cancer Surveillance System CSS at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle to receive and perform quality assurance activities on cases within the thirteen counties surrounding the Puget Sound region, following the same restricted and confidential protocols described above to insure individual confidentiality.

Once you have established a data feed to the Department of Health, the department will communicate errors to the data provider so they can be addressed. All errors or missing values must be corrected before a provider can move to ongoing submission in step 5, Production. Once an eligible provider has completed the validation step of the onboarding process, they will receive an acknowledgement of their success and be placed into production status. Eligible professionals will be required to participate in periodic quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy of reporting.
